Early Life and Medical Excellence:

Born in Hyderabad and a product of Osmania Medical College in graduation and post graduation, Dr. P. Vinay Kumar is one of Telangana’s most well-known abdominal and laparoscopic surgeons, celebrated for his expertise, compassion, and dedication to public service. A top ranker (University first) in General Surgery from the prestigious Osmania University in 1988, Dr Vinay worked as a Surgical Trainee in Abdominal Surgical Cancer at Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mumbai from 1989 to 1990.

Abdominal Surgical Training:

He proceeded to the United Kingdom in 1991 and worked as a Senior Registrar in the Colo-Rectal Surgical department at Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Liverpool from 1991 to 92. Dr Vinay went on to earn a Super specialization in Surgical Gastroenterology and Laparoscopic Surgery from the prestigious Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, Dundee Scotland, while working as a Senior Registrar with the internationally renowned surgeon, Sir Alfred Cuschieri. During this period, he trained many young surgeons from all over the world, at the Surgical Skills Center of the University in the basics of Laparoscopic Surgery.

Upon returning to India in 1997, he has since become a leading figure in Surgical Gastroenterology.

Professional life as a Surgical Gastroenterologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon: 

As a senior consultant in the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology and Laparoscopic Surgery at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, Dr Vinay established himself as one of the good surgeons in the speciality around and soon became well known the the state of then Andhra Pradesh and elsewhere in the country, especially in the North East (West Bengal, Assam and Tripura) for his expertise in Hepato-Biliary and Colo-Rectal Surgical work.

Academically, Dr Vinay trained numerous young surgeons with hands on training, who are now renowned for their surgical work across India and abroad.

Dr Vinay was the first in the country to perform Common Bile Duct Exploration first through Laparoscopy and then later for exploration of Common Bile Duct through the Cystic Dust. He has to his credit at least half a dozen surgeries which were performed first time by anyone in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Laparoscopic Splenectomy, Laparoscopic Right Hemi-Colectomy, Laparoscopic Abdomino Perineal resection, Excision of Hydatid Cyst from Liver Laparoscopically, to name a few.

He also has one of the largest numbers in day care surgeries which include Gall Bladders, Appendices, Hernias, Adhesiolysis and pelvic surgeries like ovariotomies and Hysterectomies.

His medical career is distinguished not only by excellence in surgery but also by an unwavering commitment to serving the underprivileged. He is known for his free services, having never charged surgical fees from poor patients admitted in general wards.
